Cold Forming of Aluminum – Light, Precise, and Stable

Aluminum is light, conductive, and easily formable – ideal for functional metal parts in large quantities. Cold forming transforms it into high-precision components – pressed into shape, not machined. Walter Schneider is your partner for demanding aluminum parts from a single source: development, toolmaking, mass production.

Why Cold Forming Is Ideal for Aluminum

Aluminum can be plastically deformed very well at room temperature. During forming, it is pressed into a tool under high pressure – without tearing or cracking. The result:

  • No machining required → no material waste
  • No preheating needed → low energy consumption
  • Smooth surfaces and tight tolerances
  • Higher strength through work hardening

Even complex geometries – such as hollow bodies, sleeves, or closed profiles – can be produced.

Cold Forming Compared to Alternative Forming Processes when using Aluminum

Although aluminum is easily formable – many classical processes quickly reach their limits with complex, thin-walled, or precise components.
Verfahren Disadvantages Compared to Cold Forging
❌ Milling / Turning
  • High material loss with expensive aluminum
  • Long processing times
  • Weaker components due to interrupted fiber structure
  • ❌ Deep drawing
  • Only simple geometries possible
  • Risk of cracking with unsuitable alloys
  • High technical effort due to lubrication & drawing rings
  • Typical Components We Manufacture from Aluminum

Your Advantages with Cold Forming of Aluminum

    High Dimensional Stability

Tolerances in the range of tenths or hundredths of a millimeter – ideal for series parts with tight installation specifications.

    Less Rework

Components often come directly ready for installation from the press – no milling or grinding needed.

    Material and Energy Savings

No waste, no scrap – and thanks to room temperature, less energy demand in the process.

    Light but Stable

Due to the intact fiber structure, the parts are particularly resilient despite their light weight.

    Fast and Repeatable

Once set up, production runs automatically – thousands of parts with consistent quality.

    Our Portfolio

    Development & Toolmaking

We accompany you from the first idea or drawing. Our engineers check feasibility, optimize geometries for forming, and develop the suitable tool directly in-house. This way, we ensure that your component can be manufactured in a production-ready, process-stable, and cost-effective.

    Cold Forming with In-house Production

Whether aluminum, copper, or stainless steel – we process almost all metals on our own presses. By using state-of-the-art machines and CAQ-supported quality assurance, We manufacture high-precision series parts starting at approximately 50,000 units per year – efficient, repeatable, and, if necessary, with complex geometries.

    Additional Processing & Complete Solution

In addition to the actual forming, we also offer downstream processes such as tumbling, heat treatments (e.g., solution annealing for aluminum), and surface finishing through our partners. This way, you receive ready-to-install components from a single source upon request, without additional interfaces.

Have you planned a part made of aluminum?

Send us your drawing or describe your requirements – we will assess whether the component is suitable for cold forging and how it can be economically realized.
